Strathroy Pioneer Treadlers and Weavers
STRATHROY DISTRICT PIONEER TREADLERS SPINNERS AND WEAVERS “Echos of the Past Recovered in the Present” The Strathroy District Pioneer Treadlers formed a guild of spinners and weavers in 1993. We have been very active since then, demonstrating at fairs, visiting classrooms, holding workshops and encouraging others to get involved with the age-old skills of spinning, weaving, felt making, knitting and dyeing with natural and synthetic dyes, all with a great variety of fibres. Meetings are usually on the third Wednesday of each month, 1 - 4 pm. Most meetings are held at the Art Room in the lower level of the Strathroy Town Hall, Frank Street, Strathroy, Ontario. Membership is $30 per year. Membership in the guild includes spinning & weaving workshops, dyeing & felting classes, access to the lending library, equipment rental, field trips, special events and study groups for spinners, weavers and knitters. Guild meetings usually include a program of interest to the members. Fibre enthusiasts will enjoy the wide range of topics which runs through presentations on wool, silk, linen, fibre dyeing and other related topics. The Pioneer Treadlers are dedicated to learning textile skills used by our ancestors, educating others and passing these skills on to following generations. Come and join us, learn the textile skills that are part of our heritage. NEW MEMBERS WELCOME!
